Teenager steals ambulance and starts dangerous chase

Police in Texas have released footage of the shocking moment a teenager stole an ambulance.

The 18-year-old, named as Armando Vinaja, apparently stole the vehicle to escape from the hospital in Leon County, where he was receiving treatment.
He jumped into the vehicle, then led police on a chase around a suburban neighbourhood, weaving around traffic and cutting across other motorists in a bid to outrun the law.

The chase came to an end when Vinaja lost control of the ambulance and bumped over a kerb, which caused the engine to fail. Police quickly approached the immobilised vehicle and arrested Vinaja.

Fortunately, despite the teenager's erratic driving, nobody was hurt in the chase.

According to local police, Vinaja was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and evading arrest in a vehicle.
