The best second-hand car buys were revealed last night at the Car Dealer Magazine Used Car Awards, with the Volkswagen Golf coming away with the overall title of Used Car of the Year.
There are five sub-categories to be won before the top gong is announced. Judges from Car Dealer Magazine take a number of factors into account such as residual value, how many days a car takes to sell and its general desirability using data from CAP, Glass's and Auto Trader.
The Used Small Car of the Year trophy went to the Fiat 500, which has been popular in both the new and used markets in recent years thanks to its iconic styling and great drivability.
Sebastiano Fedrigo, head of brand at Fiat UK, said: "The Fiat 500 has continued to sell well as a new car, but we know it makes a fantastic used choice too – something that Car Dealer's experts clearly agree with us on."
The title of Used SUV of the Year went to the Land Rover Discovery 4. The judging panel said: "Few things are better than riding around in comfort and luxury in a car that can go just about anywhere, and our best SUV manages both of these things in fine style."
