Mercedes reveals X-Class, a premium pick-up concept

The long-rumoured Mercedes-Benz pick-up truck is finally here – in concept form, at least.

This is the Concept X-Class, a premium pick-up truck with genuine off-road ability. It will be marketed under the Mercedes-Benz Vans brand, with the production version launching across the world in late 2017.

To better demonstrate the two distinct characteristics of the vehicle, two concepts have been created. The first is dubbed Powerful Adventurer' and the second is Stylish Explorer.

The Powerful Adventurer is designed to focus on the traditional traits of a pick-up truck. Therefore, it has chunky off-road tyres and massive ground clearance. There are bash plates at the front and rear to protect the underbody from rocks, and matte carbon wheel arches to give a more functional look.

The Stylish Explorer version gets a sleeker, sportier exterior design with its glossy white paint, power bulge in the bonnet and 22-inch alloy wheels.

Its interior is less functional and more style-conscious than its off-road equivalent. There's brown, natural leather upholstery mixed with white Nappa leather as well as oak trim inserts.

"With its progressive design the Powerful Adventurer expresses cool modernity and thirst for adventure, while the Stylish Explorer on the other hand uses pure emotion to provide a tangible experience of modern beauty," said Gorden Wagener, head of design at Daimler.

Mercedes-Benz says it will invest in 'the high nine figures (euro)' in the new model series before it goes on sale next year.
