Shocking footage shows the moment 14 rounds of ammunition were shot at a police car during a pursuit.
The incident happened at around 4.30am last Sunday in Madera, California after an officer attempted to pull over a Mazda CX-7 for a broken headlight. The policeman had a civilian with him for a 'ride-along', where members of the public are given the chance to see what police do during a shift.
The video begins peacefully enough as Officer Julian Garcia signals for the white SUV to stop. The driver indicates right and begins to slow as if they're pulling over, before accelerating away.
The officer takes off in pursuit, but shortly after the chase begins, a gun is fired in the direction of the police car. As the officer gets closer, the gun is fired again scoring a number of direct hits.
Fortunately, there were no serious injuries – although the woman in the passenger seat received minor cuts to her face from broken glass caused by two bullets that hit the windscreen.
The Mazda was later found abandoned with a pistol inside. The two occupants are still on the run.
