Swedish man invents a practical 'bicycle-car'

Updated:

A Swedish design engineer has invented a new bike that has four wheels and a car-like cover to protect the occupant from the elements.

Mikael Kjellman started a crowdfunding project on IndieGoGo in order to raise funds for his all-weather bicycle and has so far amassed $77,184 (£63,500). That's more than double what he'd initially aimed for.

He said: "I really like to bike, but where I live in Sweden, the weather is not always very bicycle-friendly. So I designed and built a f our-wheeled bike with full fabric body to keep dry and warm in all weathers."

The designer raised funds to create a kit to allow buyers to assemble the vehicles at home.

In an update posted last month, Kjellman said that the kit was close to completion but was temporarily stalled as he was struggling to find a designer to work with him. He is also in the process of changing design software to help align with manufacturers, but is currently seeking less expensive solutions.
