An elderly man was saved by brave passers-by after driving his car into a lake.

Dramatic footage of the rescue has been shared online. It shows the moment two men and a woman jumped into the water to pull the man and his dog free from the sinking vehicle.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon at Stanborough Park in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. The pensioner had just crashed through a metal barrier and landed in the lake as the video begins.

Witnesses say that at first everyone was in shock at what had happened, but the three rescuers didn't hesitate to jump into the water once they realised someone was inside the sinking 4x4.

The video shows the two men pounding on the window to break it as they couldn't open the door. They eventually managed to open a rear door and pull the man and his dog out before the car sank.

The 70-year-old was taken to hospital but was believed to be uninjured. The cause of the crash is unknown.
