Ferrari race car destroyed during violent crash

A Ferrari race car was totalled when a race start in Spain went horribly wrong.

The incident occurred during a Ferrari Challenge Cup race at Circuito de Jerez. As race one got underway, the field accelerated towards the first corner.

Eric Cheung was in the middle of the pack as the drivers vied for position. When he moved to the outside of the corner to take the racing line, his rear bumper collided with the front corner of another racer.

The impact turned his car sideways and sent him driving towards the barriers at high speed, hitting them head-on.

The front of the car disintegrated, with one wheel detaching and hurtling along the track. Debris from the wreck was scattered across the other cars.

Fortunately, despite the severity of the crash, Cheung escaped without injury.
