One of London's leading classic dealerships has listed an extremely rare Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet for sale.
One of only 68 right-hand examples produced, and possibly the only one of its kind currently for sale, the model was recently subject to a comprehensive restoration by Sleeping Beauties of Brisbane.
Following this body and mechanical restoration – which is detailed in photos provided with the car – the Mercedes boasts a near-concours condition and is being sold by Hexagon Classics for an undisclosed sum.
This striking black example was handbuilt in 1970, five years after the model was introduced to rival the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley Corniche Convertibles.
It is powered by a 3.5-litre V8, which is coupled to a super-smooth four-speed, floor-mounted automatic gearbox, and can reportedly cruise comfortably at today's motorway speeds.
Excellent sound-deadening and a snug-fitting six-layer convertible top serve to keep the comfortable four-seat cockpit relatively noise-free, while power steering, front headrests and electric windows offer further creature comforts in the spacious red-leather-clad, four-seater cockpit.
Paul Michaels, chairman of Hexagon Classics, said: "Seeing a right-hand-drive Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 for sale is extremely rare, let alone one like this in such incredible condition.
"Sleeping Beauties of Brisbane has done sterling work restoring this stunning car, and a lucky buyer can now profit from their brilliance and Mercedes' expertise."
