Classic car auctions are a great place to see rare exotic metal going under the hammer for ludicrous sums, but sometimes enthusiasts will spot something special that doesn't command an extortionate fee.
This 1978 Datsun 260Z is a perfect example of that. The Japanese sports car is only estimated to go for between £18,000 and £22,000, but finding an un-modified example in such good condition is very rare.
It's a UK specification car in right-hand drive, and has just 8,285 miles on the clock. It was delivered in March of 1978 and has had two owners from new. The current owner bought the car in 1994 and says they spent a long time trying to source the best possible 260Z. This car was ultimately chosen for being a one-owner car and its low mileage.
After one year of ownership, a change in circumstances forced the owner to put the car in storage where it has stayed ever since. After being removed recently, it was sent for inspection by specialist Richard Thorne Classic Cars.
The engine was turned by hand and attached to an auxiliary fuel tank to bypass the old fuel system. The new owner would have to have the fuel tank and fuel lines inspected before turning the car on, while it is also recommended that a full mechanical service is undertaken before it is driven.
