Heroic strangers rescue woman from burning car

Terrifying dashcam footage captured the moment a woman was pulled free from her burning car after a massive pile-up.

The video was recorded on Route 17 in Binghamton, New York, last Thursday and shows the moment a truck slammed into stationary traffic.

A silver SUV can be seen crumpled up against the truck's bumper as it continues to smash through traffic. As the carnage comes to an end, a white saloon car is left resting against the central barrier with flames coming from the rear.

Other drivers can be seen running over to check on the car's occupants and as the flames begin to take hold, someone uses a fire extinguisher.

Fortunately, this kills the fire long enough for the heroic rescuers to pull the woman from her car.

The truck was found to have had faulty brakes. The driver, Allen R. Kirkpatrick, 74, of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, was cited for operating an out of service vehicle.

Miraculously, there were no fatalities in the crash. However, two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
