Mercedes E55 AMG Estate once owned by Schumacher goes on sale

Updated:

A Mercedes-Benz estate that once belonged to ex-Formula One racer Michael Schumacher has gone up for sale.

The E55 AMG was one of the most sought after wagons of its time when it debuted in 1998, and this example is in a pristine condition, both inside and out.

Given its former owner, and full service history, the model would be expected to sell for more than most. However, it would appear that the German dealership which is selling it is monetising on Schumacher's influence, as the 18-year-old, 123,031-mile model is offered for a whopping €119,950 – that's £100,164.

For this amount you could get your hands on a new C63 AMG, or a second hand CL55 AMG – with significantly lower mileage.

Extensive specifications are listed (in German) on the advert, with Parktronic and Linguatronic systems, satellite navigation system, automatic air conditioning and white Designo leather upholstery counting for just a few of them.

A unique touch comes in the form of a Ferrari logo added in front of the gear shift – a subtle reference to the Scuderia team with which Schumacher became the most successful F1 driver ever.

The car's naturally aspirated 5.4-litre V8 puts out 349bhp through its back wheels, allowing it to sprint to 60 mph in the same time as a Porsche 911 Carrera S of its era – 4.1 seconds to be precise.

It is unclear on the advert exactly how long the high-performance people-carrier was in the possession of Schumacher, but for this price we hope it was a significant amount of time.

Either way, this Swiss-registered wagon will no doubt end up in the hand of one very lucky (and rich) F1 fan.
