Car stopped at red light bursts into flames

Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a car spontaneously burst into flames while waiting at a red light in China.

At the start of the video, a blue car can be seen stopped in the middle of the road when all-of-a-sudden flames burst from beneath the engine.

Two occupants quickly climb out of the burning vehicle and run away from the fireball. Flames emerge from the passenger-side wheel arch and the road beside the car ignites.

Authorities in Baise, Guanxi Province, said that it was unclear what had caused the fire, however overheating was suspected.

Given the fact that the car had already stopped well short of the junction when it exploded, as well as what appears to be a flammable liquid spilling onto the road, it's safe to assume the engine suffered a catastrophic failure.

As traffic builds behind the stranded car, a local is seen trying to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher until the fire brigade arrives.
