Volvo recently revealed the updated V90 estate, and ushered in its new saloon twin dubbed S90. Now a new sporty-looking R-Design specification has been announced.
The manufacturer's new design language, first seen on the XC90, now features on Volvo's large executive vehicles. In R-Design trim the exterior gets styling tweaks to give a sportier appearance, with a redesigned front bumper incorporating fog lights into the spoiler.
The S90 and V90 also get a unique grille and piano black trim in R-Design form, as well as new five-spoke matt black diamond-cut wheels.
On the inside, R-Design cars receive unique pedals and mats, and sports-inspired seats and steering wheel. A high-level illumination package is also available.
Following the XC90's shift upmarket, the S90 and V90 continue Volvo's commitment to making luxury vehicles.
Speaking at the launch of the new saloon and estate models, Håkan Samuelsson, President & CEO, Volvo Car Group, said: "With $11 USD billion of investment over the past five years, we have not only reimagined what Volvo Cars can be – we are now delivering on our promise of a resurgent and relevant Volvo Cars brand."
Engine specifications haven't been announced, but expect Volvo's D4 and D5 diesel engines, and a T8 plug-in hybrid. It should also be better to drive than other models in the range, as a tweaked chassis promises a more 'energetic, road-hugging drive.'
Volvo expects the R-Design trim to make up 45 per cent of S90 and V90 orders. Prices haven't yet been announced, but the S90 should come in a little under £35,000, with V90 examples about £2,000 more.
