IndyCar event sees close photo-finish between rivals

Updated:

As far as photo finishes go, this recent one from the IndyCar Freedom 100 race is up there.

The close finish took place at the Indy Lights event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which works as a support race for the world famous Indy 500. A high-speed race over 100 miles, the event is all about side-by-side racing – and it stayed like this right down to the final corner.

The race was led by Dean Stoneman and Ed Jones. Both were neck and neck as the race reached its close, with all of the racers released under a white flag following an incident involving Hearmin Choi.

As the race restarted, both Stoneman and Jones separated from the rest of the pack. Through the final turns, there was still very little between the two racers. As the chequered flag approached, the two competed in an all-out drag race for the finish.

It finished with Stoneman crossing the line first – just 0.0022 seconds ahead of rival Jones.
