An incredibly low-mileage Ford Escort is set to hit the market, taking its next owner back in time.

With just 4,000 miles on the clock, the Escort is nearly as pristine as it was when it first left the factory 37 years ago.

Having only had two owners since new, the Escort represents an ideal purchase for someone looking for an unmolested and immaculate example of a late '70s icon. Its first owner barely used the car, keeping it in secure storage from 1979 until 2013.

Guy Lees-Milne, general manager of Classic Car Auction, said: "With this car it takes very little imagination to believe you are sitting in a new Ford in a dealer's showroom in 1979.

"Fords of this era are big news in today's classic market, and this must be one of the lowest mileage examples in existence.

"CCA's second sale of the year is just around the corner and we've already had a lot interest from our customers.

"We are expecting a huge turnout on the day with many other very special, low mileage classics which are sure to cause a frenzy among bidders."

This particular Escort features a wood dashboard and a velour interior with leather trim. It also comes with a full year's MOT and its original dealer handbook folder.

Taking into accounts its low mileage and impressive condition, it's certain that the car will surpass its estimate of between £9,000 and £11,000.

The auction takes place at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre on June 18.
