An American highway patrol officer is being hailed a hero after footage emerged of him saving two women and two small children from a burning car in California.
The officer happened to be driving behind the Toyota when smoke began pouring from the bonnet, and when the car pulled to a stop he followed suit and immediately jumped out to help.
Incredibly only one of the two women in the vehicle had got out, whilst the other appeared to be making little effort to help herself or the children.
In the video, captured by a photographer from the Monterey Herald, the officer is seen frantically opening the car's rear doors and pulling the children to safety, while shouting at the women to help.
After the incident the four were treated at the scene, with relatives of the family later attributing their slow reactions to fear and shock.
