Christian Bale is reported to have agreed to play the part of Enzo Ferrari in an upcoming movie based on Brock Yates' book: 'Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races.'

The Batman star is set to star in the film, directed by Michael Mann, when shooting begins next summer. Details of the film are few for now, though it is reported to have a very large budget.

Although there is little information known about the film, it is thought that it will be set in 1957, the year that Alfonso de Portago died after crashing his Ferrari 335S at the Mille Milgia. It was also the year after Ferrari's son Alfredo died.

This comes after news that Robert De Niro will also play Ferrari, in another film titled simply 'Ferrari'. Having played Italians in a variety of different films, De Niro is well suited to play the role of Ferrari. He has even learnt Italian for previous roles, making him perfectly able to carry off the role of the Ferrari boss.

De Niro told Italy's Il Messaggero: "It is an honour and a joy to tell the life of an extraordinary man who revolutionised the automotive world."

"It's a story based on creativity, courage and [is] destined to thrill audiences of every country and every age."

It is thought that the film will trace through Ferrari's life, depicting key events that helped shape the thought process behind the Italian manufacturer that we know today. It will be based on Ferrari's autobiography called 'Ferrari 80'.

It is thought that Clint Eastwood is interested in directing this particular film.
