A bystander at a severe road traffic collision in London left witnesses open-mouthed with disbelief when he whipped out his phone for a quick selfie.

The man was seen standing on a footbridge holding his iPhone in the air, as he attempted to get both himself and the numerous emergency vehicles below into the frame.

Despite distraught witnesses desperately trying to find out what had happened to the driver, the narcissistic passer-by was seemingly more concerned with striking an appropriate pose for his grisly snap.

Paramedics and fire fighters meanwhile were battling to free a woman who had become pinned in her Peugeot 206, after hitting two lorries on the North Circular road in Barnet yesterday afternoon.

The driver and two female passengers were taken to hospital and all are expected to make a full recovery. A 48-year-old lorry driver, who was working for an overseas haulage company, has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving.

The A406 currently remains closed, and motorists are advised to avoid the road in the Barnet and Haringey areas. Police are currently appealing for witnesses to the collision.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 3.18pm today to reports of a road traffic collision on the A406, close to Colney Hatch Lane, involving two lorries and a car," the Daily Mail reports.

"We sent London's Air Ambulance, two ambulance crews, our hazardous area response team and a duty manager. We remain at the scene."
