An anonymous (though deeply talented) driver has thrown a Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce (SV) around the Nurburgring in 6 minutes 59.73 seconds - only 2 seconds off the lap time of the cutting edge Porsche 918 Spyder.
The video, released by Lamborghini itself, shows a cockpit view of the V12 supercar as it records the blistering lap time during tyre development tests with Pirelli.
Lamborghinis aren't generally considered accomplished track cars, despite being incredibly fast, powerful. However, that could be all set to change, following the Aventador SV's sub-7 minute lap time, which is embarrassingly close to the Spyder's 6 minute 57 second lap - embarrassing for Porsche that is.
The Aventador Superveloce is not yet on sale, but when it is you'll have to be quick if you want one - Lamborghini has previously announced that it will only make 600 units of this 740bhp, 217mph range-topper. It reaches showrooms later this year, costing from €327,190 (£232,285).
