Lamborghini Aventador reduced to smouldering wreck

Lamborghini fire

A £250,000 supercar shouldn't just spontaneously combust. Unfortunately, it seems they frequently do - the pursuit of speed getting in the way of minor things such as engine cooling. A Lamborghini Aventador owner in Dubai has become the latest owner to watch his pride and joy consumed by fire.

Footage captured by a passer-by shows the yellow 691bhp coupe as smoke billows out from the engine bay. A man believed to be the owner tries desperately to extinguish it, before being joined by a team of firefighters whose best efforts could not stop the car from becoming a burnt out carcass.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, although there is speculation that it was due to an engine fault. We'd imagine this isn't the sort of attention the driver had in mind when he shelled out for the Italian exotic.

The Lamborghini Aventador boasts a 6.5 litre V12 mid-mounted engine and can go from 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds. Its top speed is 217mph.
