The Jaguar F-Type R isn't what you'd called under-endowed in the power department, with its 542hp supercharged 5.0-litre motor. However, a new model is on the way from the brand's new special vehicle operations and it'll boast around 600bhp, Motor Trend reports.
Currently, details are thin on the ground, but this new range-topping SVR model is likely to carry over the same V8 motor from the R, though it is unclear whether it will be offered in rear or four-wheel drive. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is the most likely transmission option.
It's not even been confirmed whether an F-Type SVR would be offered as a convertible, or solely in fixed-roof Coupe guise.
The new F-Type model won't be the first to wear Jaguar Land Rover's go-faster SVR badging. That honour went to the Range Rover Sport SVR, which followed the limited edition F-Type Project 7 that took inspiration from Jaguar's classic Le Mans racers, with its chopped-down windscreen, open cabin and driver's-side fairing on the rear deck.
Elements from the Project 7, including its carbon fibre aerodynamic addenda and active rear differential could make it onto an SVR model. Spy shots of prototype test cars have been fitted with a huge rear wing, which is likely to be offered on a production version.
