Motoring legends don't come much bigger than Ayrton Senna, who made his name from just 10 years at the wheel with several Formula 1 teams. The Brazilian F1 star rose to fame after taking his first steps in the motorsport at his home grand prix, The Grand Premio do Brazil in Rio de Janeiro in 1984 – and the machine in which he first appeared on the F1 circuit, is now up for sale.
The eventual three-time champion raced his first four F1 races in this car and it was this machine that helped him pick up his first championship points – with him chalking up two sixth place finishes at the wheel – including one at Kyalami in South Africa and a seventh position spot at Zolder in Belgium and at the San Marino grand prix in Imola. This Toleman TG183B, chassis number five, packed a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor behind the driver's seat and was retired after four races with Senna at the wheel.
This car was owned by the Toleman F1 team until the early 1990s when it was sold and restored in the US. It has since been returned to the UK and is up for sale with Cars International. And just in case you have any hesitations about digging out your chequebook to put this Senna souvenir on the drive, the car comes with a spare engine block – always handy – and full documentation to prove its illustrious history.
