Porsche is no stranger to performance cars, but the latest 911 Carrera GTS ups the ante, with no less than 424bhp – a boost of 30bhp over the Carrera S.
Arriving in November this latest model follows in the tyre tracks of the Porsche's Boxster, Cayman and Panamera, which already have popular GTS variants.
Four new 911 Carrera GTS versions will be available, with buyers able to choose between coupes and convertibles in both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive formats. The new cars offer faster acceleration than lesser 911s, with the potent flat-six engine launching the GTS to 62mph in just 4.0 seconds and the heavier cabriolet in a still rapid 4.2 seconds.
Thanks to "Porsche Active Suspension Management" dampers, the car's ride height drops 10mm for tauter handling around bends. Despite the power on tap economy figures are strong, with the car returning a claimed fuel economy figure of 32.5mpg in twin-clutch automatic form – identical to the Carrera S. Opt for the rear-wheel drive seven-speed manual car though and this machine can race up to a top speed just shy of 200mph.
Also standard are hefty 20-inch alloy wheels with a matt black finish, along with smoked bi-xenon headlights and unique new exterior trim. A standard sports exhaust with black chrome plated tailpipes ensures that the GTS cars make a distinctive sound. Inside driver and passenger gain body-hugging leather and Alcantara sports seats, while the interior is trimmed in even more of the faux-suede material.
These latest models take the 911 model tally up to 12 cars across three power levels and are available to order now. Prices for the GTS start at £91,098 for the Carrera GTS Coupe and rise to £104,385 for the four-wheel drive Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet.
