This is the Mercedes S65 AMG Coupe, the most powerful and most expensive model in the luxury marque's flagship S-Class model range.
Going on sale later this week, with the first customer deliveries expected towards the end of the year, the new performance two-door will start from a cool £183,065 – some £3,080 more than the four-door S-Class with the same engine.
And what an engine it is – where most premium manufacturers are abandoning large V12 engines in favour of greener turbocharged V8s, Mercedes has stuck with the larger unit, which will prove popular in markets such as Russia and the Middle East.
The 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged unit develops a staggering 621bhp and 1,000Nm of torque. With power channeled to the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic gearbox, the unit is muscular enough to get this two-tonne leviathan from 0-62mph in a Porsche 911-beating 4.1 seconds.
The top speed, as ever with German automobiles, is electronically limited to 155mph. Derestricted, however, the S65 AMG Coupe would likely crack the 200mph barrier.
With performance credentials such as this the svelte two-door S65 will provide stiff competition to the Bentley Continental GT and Aston Martin Vanquish, both of which offer a similar recipe of continent-crushing comfort and 12-cylinder power.
The new AMG model also wears more aggressive bodywork, including heavily sculpted front-end styling and unique 20-inch alloy wheels, to mark it out from lesser S-Class Coupe models.
