Bentley SUV to cost upwards of £130,000

Bentley has confirmed that its highly anticipated first SUV model will cost over £130,000, making it significantly more expensive than contemporary luxury 4x4 rivals from Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz.
> "All of the current luxury SUVs, the BMW X5s, the AMG-powered Mercedes, the Range Rovers, they all end at around €160,000 (£128,208)," Bentley chief Wolfgang Durheimer told Autocar. "We aim to solve this problem".

Pricing for the forthcoming SUV from the Crewe manufacturer was previously expected to start at over £200,000, to bring it in line with the SUV model set to be launched by rival British luxury manufacturer Rolls-Royce in 2017.

However, with Bentley currently wanting the £228,200 Mulsanne limousine to remain its flagship model, the entry price-point has been lowered to not to compete with it.

Little is currently known about Bentley's SUV, which has only been previewed in concept form in the shape of the EXP 9F concept car (pictured here), which was met with mixed reactions – largely due to its dumpy styling – upon its unveiling at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

Unlike the majority of its rivals, particularly the opulent Range Rover, which focus purely on luxury, Bentley is keen to portray its forthcoming model as a sports SUV, and is said to be targeting a top speed of 200mph for production versions.
