New Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo unveiled

Bavarian tuners Alpina have long been fettling BMWs and their cars produce performance figures that will challenge anything from the German marque's own M-Division.

The latest offering, dubbed the B4 Bi-Turbo, packs an almighty 410bhp from its twin turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six, which was pinched from the old BMW 335i.

Torque is up to just shy of 600Nm, trumping the new BMW M4 Coupe's relatively measly 548, while the switch to a twin-turbo system ensures throttle response is improved over the previous single turbo system.

Power is driven through Alpina's own eight-speed gearbox, plus the firm has added further performance touches, such as an improved cooling system and forged steel crankshaft to cope with the excess of torque.

The figures look like this: 0-62mph in just 4.2 seconds and a brilliantly de-restricted top speed of 188mph. Eat that M-division.

Alpina offers the potent fettling on both Coupe and Convertible models, with prices starting at £58,950 and £62,950 respectively. That's around £200 cheaper than the new BMW M4 Coupe.

Head down to the Goodwood Festival of Speed next week if you fancy seeing the B4s in action. You never know, if you ask nicely they might let you have a go if you've got your chequebook handy.
