Motorcycle crash sees five rushed to hospital

Five people were rushed to hospital yesterday afternoon after a motorcycle and police car collided on a busy London junction.
> Both the bike rider and two officers inside the patrol car suffered injuries in the crash, which occurred in the east London suburb of Poplar.

Several bystanders were also hurt by flying debris in the smash, which left a scene of devastation, destroying the police car and mangling nearby railings and other street furniture.

The London Air Ambulance was called to the scene, along with three other emergency ambulance crews. Five people were taken to the nearby Royal London Hospital for treatment.

Kaysar Ahmed, who witnessed the crash, told the Daily Mail: "A police car collided with a motorbike, and the air ambulance arrived.

"The front end of the police car was totally destroyed after the collision.

"It was at a four-way junction near the Blackwall Tunnel, and the police car hit the railings and they were all broken.

"The guy looks like he was in a critical condition."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that two officers were involved in a road traffic accident while responding to the identification of a suspicious vehicle, which was not involved in the crash.

The 27-year-old motorcyclist is currently receiving treatment for serious head and leg injuries. The injuries suffered by the occupants of the police car are currently unknown.

No arrests have currently been made over the collision.
