Megane RS 275 Trophy unveiled

The French firm has teased and tormented us with snapshots and snippets of information surrounding its latest potent hot hatch but it has now finally unleashed the beast.

There isn't a huge amount to shout about bar the 10bhp power hike, a stiffer Cup chassis, the addition of Ohlins suspension and a rather tasty Akrapovic exhaust system.

But these small technical tweaks, which also includes a limited slip differential fitted as standard, are allegedly enough to snatch back a Nurburgring record from the Seat Leon Cupra 280.

Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy

The Megane RS 275 Trophy will have to lap the infamous Nordschleife circuit in less than 7 minutes 58.4 seconds if Renault is to reclaim the record for fastest front-wheel-drive car around the German track.

Customers benefit from the record attempt though, because to make the it official, any features added to the vehicle must be offered to paying punters. That means Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres and fully adjustable Ohlins dampers will be offered as optional extras, while the racy interior, Cup chassis, limited slip-diff and Trophy badging will all come as standard.

Optional 19-inch black Speedline Turini wheels derived from those used by competition versions of Megane can also be ordered to complete the racy look.

The new halo model for the Megane range is set to make its UK debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014 in June. It will be sold in 20 countries worldwide, with UK pricing and specification details to be confirmed in the summer, with first deliveries in October.
