Music mogul Simon Cowell has added to his already impressive collection of cars, after spending over £600,000 on an Eagle Speedster.
> Based on the iconic 1960s Jaguar E-Type, the Speedster is a bespoke design by Sussex-based resoration company Eagle, which features subtle enhancements to almost every body panel, a smaller windscreen and uprated mechanicals, including modern suspension and brakes.
Underneath the never-ending bonnet (now in aluminium along with the rest of the car) sits a 4.7-litre, six-cylinder engine, the sound of which may evoke images of the bygone days of motoring, but with 310bhp, can hold its head high amongst contemporary roadsters.
Indeed, with a 0-60mph time of under five seconds and a top speed of over 160mph, the Eagle Speedster is a performance car in the modern sense.
Cowell was reportedly attracted to the car after watching Jeremy Clarkson extolling its virtues on an episode of Top Gear.
He plans to ship it out to the United States, where the rather more clement weather means he can enjoy this roofless car for more of the time.
Cowell has ordered his Speedster – only the third to ever be built – in black to match the rest of his vast collection of luxury and exotic cars.
I think this may be the most beautiful car in the world. It's made by Eagle. Thank you Henry,Paul and the team. pic.twitter.com/evX73q1YBj- Simon Cowell (@SimonCowell) March 17, 2014
Paul Brace, technical director at Eagle, said: 'Simon got in touch after seeing it on Top Gear," reported the Daily Mail.
"It is one of three, is hand built and we're delighted Simon has the car.
"He was over the moon when he saw it and we're looking forward to delivering it to him in the US where he can enjoy it in the sunshine."
