Video: RC Subaru WRX STI vs StickBomb

We're assuming the vast majority of readers don't have a clue what a 'StickBomb' is (we didn't, either), so we'll do our very best to clarify.

The 'StickBomb' is a rudimentary toy that sees hundreds of flat wooden sticks – the kind you'd find inserted into an ice-lolly – woven together under tension to create one long, wooden lattice.

As soon as one of the sticks is removed, the entire construction explodes into the air, creating a Mexican wave of lolly splints. Think dominos but more impressive and slightly more 'explosive'.

So why is this all relevant? Well, Subaru has created a brilliant short film that pits a remote control Subaru Impreza WRX STI against an enormous StickBomb on a specially-made circuit.

The method of filming makes the whole event appear extremely realistic and the chap in charge of the remote control Subaru has some serious racing skills - drifting, sliding and kerb-clipping his way around the course.

There is no real reason for the film (apart from the obvious viral marketing gains) but it makes for an entertaining watch.

This neat 'making-of' video also helps put the film into context.
