Lotus spices up Elise range with S Cup R version

Updated:

It might not be the catchiest model name currently on the market but the Lotus Elise S Cup R might well be one of the most aggressive looking.

The racy model has been created especially for the Autosport International racing car show at the Birmingham NEC next week and features an array of racing bodywork that is just begging to be thrashed around a circuit.

An aerodynamic bodykit adds a more pronounced front splitter, larger rear wing and rear diffuser to improve downforce and ensure the car slices through the air easier.

Engine mapping has also been fettled for a more extreme driving experience so the already throaty supercharged V6 engine is even more responsive and delivers an extra boost of horsepower.

Rupert Manwaring, Head of Lotus Motorsport commented, "Developing the Elise S Cup R was a natural step following the success of the Exige V6 Cup R; with so many new markets becoming interested in motorsport, the Elise S Cup R gives us the perfect entry level track-car.

"Whether the focus is racing or simply developing your driving skills on a race circuit and having fun, the incredible handling and ease of use with low running costs make the Elise S Cup R an intelligent choice," he added.

Although the Elise S Cup R might look like a stepping-stone into the world of competitive racing, don't think it is a novice track day toy. Lotus engineers have ensured dampers and springs can be adjusted and fettled by racing teams, while the CFD proven aero pack is said to cut a typical 2.2-mile lap time by around 4 seconds.
