Peugeot has taken the wraps off its potent RCZ R model and announced that a molten hot 208 R version will be coming to a dealer near you in the not-so distance future.
The RCZ R will be the most powerful road-going car the French marque produces and will feature a highly-tuned and completely overhauled 1.6-litre engine that, coupled with a feisty turbocharger, will produce 270bhp.
A specially strengthened six-speed manual transmission has been installed to cope with the extra horses, so has an uprated clutch and a Torsen differential has been added to aid grip and improve cornering performance.
Peugeot engineers claim the RCZ R will smash the 0-62mph sprint time in just 5.9 seconds and go on to hit an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
A Peugeot spokesperson said: "The RCZ R is a Peugeot with the aggression of a lion at its heart, measured at more than two seconds per kilometre quicker than the 200bhp car at the famous Nürburgring test track. The difference was even greater in wet conditions."
Peugeot's CEO Maxime Picat also revealed to Automotive News Europe that the hot 208 R will go into production, saying: "Above the 208 GTI, we will soon have an even sportier 208 R, which is a good example of what we would like to add to top the 308 range."
