A crackdown by the Metropolitan Police Service's Safer Transport Command saw over 180 vehicles seized on Tuesday, but perhaps the most impressive catch was a rare Lamborghini Aventador worth approximately £400,000.
> The operation saw officers crackdown on uninsured drivers and vehicles driver other than in accordance with a licence. In total, over 180 vehicles were seized and 37 arrests were made for vehicle related crime which included drink drive, no insurance and robbery.

The unlucky driver of the Lamborghini Aventador was originally stopped because it had no front licence plate but subsequent checks revealed the male driver was not the registered owner and his insurance policy did not cover him to drive this high value vehicle, which was eventually seized for no insurance.

Chief Superintendent Sultan Taylor, Safer Transport Command, said: "The STC works to keep the travelling public safe and part of our duty includes carrying out operations such as Cubo which help to keep uninsured and dangerous drivers off London's roads.

"The STC has achieved some outstanding results through these operations by seizing a large number of uninsured and unroadworthy vehicles that pose a risk on London's roads."

Some 11,576 vehicles have been seized since Operation Cubo's launch in October 2012, with over 500 non-compliant vehicles removed from London's streets each day and 2,300 suspects arrested.

The operation doesn't just punish those without valid insurance and tax but has also helped contribute to prosecuting individuals for offences such as money laundering and drugs trafficking.

Siwan Hayward, Head of TfL's Transport Policing, said: "The successful results gained by the Safer Transport Command through their day of action sends out a clear message that we will not tolerate uninsured drivers on our roads. We will continue to work with our policing partners to push for the toughest penalties on those who disregard the law and pose a serious risk on London's roads."
