In a scene that looks like it has been lifted from the upcoming Dumb and Dumber sequel, a man can be seen driving along the busy A31 dual carriageway in Hampshire with his bonnet up.
The hapless driver was spotted by a BBC reporter - who himself was a passenger in another car - on a 50mph stretch of the A31 near Cadnam. BBC presenter Jon Cuthill did the sensible thing and filmed the fool on his phone for the world to see.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class appeared to be attempting to charge his battery as beneath the erect bonnet lies what looks like a portable battery booster unit.
A spokesman for the AA told the BBC: "It's mind-boggling and obviously very dangerous."
Mr Cuthill, a presenter on Inside Out, said: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
"Why would anyone think driving along a public highway with your bonnet up was a good idea? "The bonnet obviously hadn't just sprung open accidentally.
"I just think it's crazy that someone would drive along a dual carriageway stretch of road without being able to see through the windscreen."
The AA spokesman said: "It's someone who clearly didn't give a thought to other road users.
