41 per cent of motorists think BMW drivers are 'the biggest jerks' on the road

Motoring website Car Throttle asked its readers which drivers they thought were the most obnoxious on the road and the results have returned a pretty conclusive result.

A massive 41 per cent of the near 7,500 surveyed said they thought that BMW drivers are 'the biggest jerks behind the wheel'.
> The tongue-in-cheek survey comes after researcher Paul K Piff from the University of California, Berkeley discovered that BMW drivers in America are the least likely to stop at pedestrian crossings.

Over 3,000 individuals clicked on the 'BMW' icon when asked to name the biggest jerks on the road, with those piloting an Audi coming in second with a comparatively measly 13 per cent of the votes.

Surprisingly, Honda drivers came in third place with 10 per cent of votes and Mercedes owners a close fourth with 6 per cent.

The results will shock many, especially those who hang off every word Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson says as the perm-topped presenter has frequently mocked Audi drivers for tailgating and other aggressive forms of driving.

At the other end of the scale, Mitsubishi drivers were classed as the least likely to be jerks behind the wheel, with just 37 respondents clicking on the Japanese manufacturer's badge.

Volvo, Nissan, Jeep and Mazda also came way with reputations firmly intact as only 1 per cent voted for these marques.

Peugeot came away equally unscathed, despite the aforementioned Clarkson believing that drivers of the French marque are some of the slowest and accident prone on the roads.
