The most extreme Jaguar XK in the current model line-up will go on sale here in October, bosses confirmed earlier this week.
Boasting a mighty 542bhp from the 5.0-litre supercharged engine, the clumsily named XKR-S GT will be the fastest and most powerful road-ready Jaguar to roll off the assembly line at the Castle Bromwich plant.
Originally unveiled to UK crowds at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this month, the feisty XKR-S GT is said to be limited to just 40 models worldwide, with just 10 making their way to these shores.
Each car will cost a rather gulp-inducing £135,000 but that money buys a machine that can happily lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in 7 minutes 40 seconds – placing it in the same league as the Lamborghini Murcielago and the awesome Mercedes SLS AMG.
The car is also kitted out with plenty of race-inspired exterior trim, including an enormous rear wing for added downforce, lower side skirts and carbon fibre "dive planes" on the front splitter.
Top speed is limited to a more-than-adequate 186mph but the 0-62mph sprint takes just 3.9 seconds. Plus, the addition of race-prepared suspension and uprated carbon ceramic brakes ensures it performs like a proper race car for the road.
