Original Noddy Car goes under the hammer

An original Noddy Car once owned by Enid Blyton's company could sell for up to £25,000 when it goes to auction later this month.

The car, complete with unmistakeable red and yellow paintjob, is an exact replica of the vehicle Noddy and best pal Big Ears cruise around Toytown in.
> Its basic underpinnings are from a 1969 Fiat Gamine Vignale, a small two-seat roadster produced by Italian coachbuilders Carozzeria Vignale from 1967 to 1971, which in turn is based on the Fiat 500 platform.

A small 594cc engine powers the machine and thanks to working lights, indicators and registration plate NOD 513, it is ready for the open road although it is not mentioned whether or not it comes with a year's MOT and road tax.

It has had four previous owners, the most famous of which was Enid Blyton's company, and only covered a believed 4,553 miles from new.

Most recently it has been looked after by marque specialists Middle Barton Garage in Oxfordshire. Will Smith, classic car specialist, Silverstone Auctions, said: "This amazing Noddy Car has got to be one of the most easily recognisable cars anywhere on the planet, and it doesn't get any closer to the one that Noddy actually drives with his friends in their adventures in Toytown.

"Our auction at the Silverstone Classic is a great opportunity to own a fascinating piece of automotive history, which can most accurately be described as 'the' Noddy Car having previously been owned by Enid Blyton's company."

If you're interested in a slice of Noddy-based automotive history then head to the Silverstone auction on Saturday July 27.
