Football fans rejoice as registration WO11 VES goes up for sale

Supporters of Wolverhampton Wanderers will have something to cheer about when an extremely fitting and sought after vehicle registration goes under the hammer for three days from July 25.

Registration WO11 VES, the closest current registration to 'Wolves', is among 1,500 interesting plates to be sold off at the Heritage Motor Museum in Gaydon over the three-day period.

Previous football-related registrations have proved a massive hit among the legions of devoted fans, with HU11 CTY selling for £46,700 in March of this year.

But it was a supporter from east London who set a record for football-based motoring paraphernalia when one fan snapped up WE57 HAM for a stonking £57,000 in October 2007.

Jody Davies, DVLA Personalised Registrations' Events Manager, said: "Football supporters are truly passionate about their clubs and many have gone to great lengths in the past to show their devotion by buying a personalised registration, hopefully, thanks to our WO11 VES registration, Wolves could well be elevated into our own Premier League of registrations we've sold!"

The WO11 VES registration has a reserve of £1000 but will likely sell for more, while WA11 YNE is also available with a £900 reserve – perfect for one of the most famous footballing faces on the planet.

Ms Davies added: "While WO11 VES will undoubtedly prove popular, we have registrations with reserves ranging from £250 for A113 GRO, which is perfect for a fan of the old Austin Allegro car, through to £5,000 set for 19 O. In essence, we'll be auctioning something for everybody's tastes and, more importantly, budgets."
