A driver and his dog were left covered in several coats of colourful paint after the vehicle they were traveling in spun off the road, exploding litres of gloopy cargo all over the cabin.

The pair ended up caked in emulsion after the consignment of paint burst open upon impact, covering the unwitting occupants and making a Jackson Pollock-esque piece out of the stricken SUV.
> The driver suffered minor injuries and was later taken to hospital after he careered off a road in Washington State.

The driver's Labrador mix also received a thorough dousing but was soon restored to her former glory thanks to help from a local animal charity.

Trooper Russ Winger teamed up with an off-duty firefighter to take care of the animal, which had been turned grey from all the different paints.

"She looked great after the clean-up, wagging her tail," he said.

This isn't the first time messy cargo has wreaked havoc on US roads as a lorry carrying hundreds of litres of ketchup crashed in Reno earlier this year, turning Interstate 80 into a "murder scene".
