There aren't many people who can claim to be a member of the elusive 1000bhp club. To gain access, it either takes a lot of money (the Bugatti Veyron, for example) or some serious tinkering skills.
The proud owner of the 16Vampir VW Golf 2 4Motion (snappy title) falls into the latter camp after successfully extracting 1010bhp from a 1.8-litre engine.
To do this, the Golf features an enormous turbocharger and a distinct lack of interior comforts. In fact, it's been completely stripped back so it weighs in at a Caterham-baiting 900kg without a driver.
The result is a beast of a machine that can smash the 0-62mph sprint time in 2.3 seconds, and can hit 124mph from a standstill in the time it takes many modern sports cars to get to 60mph.
A top speed of 165mph has been recorded over a quarter mile drag race and perhaps the coolest thing is that it is completely road legal, albeit a massive handful.
Take a look at the video below and witness the surrealism of supercar performance in a Mark 2 Golf.
