A sunbather who dozed-off on Florida's Miramar beach ended up in hospital after being run over by a policeman.
21-year-old Jessica Nystrom was hit by the police patrol pick-up truck at around 6pm on Tuesday night.
She was left with tyre marks across her body and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Florida Highway Patrol Deputy Chad Biernacki, who had been dealing with a group of under-age drinkers before the accident, described how he felt a "slight bump" before hearing a woman swear.
He was found to be at fault and now faces disciplinary action.
An official report into the collision stated that the officer had attempted to make a U-turn on the beach before rolling his right tyre over Ms Nystrom's shoulder.
She had been asleep on the beach for around 20 minutes and did not wake up until the truck had hit her. She had not been drinking.
Sheriff's spokesman Major A.J. Smith said he had never heard of a similar incident in his 15 years with the Walton County police force.
He commented: "You can never train too much when you are dealing with high-liability areas like operating a vehicle, especially when it is in crowded and congested areas like the beach," reported the Daily Mail.
