Best ten cars that held their value in 2012

Looking to buy a car in 2013? You may be swayed by brand loyalties, by how a car looks or by a mulitiude of different reasons.

Perhaps how much a car loses in value in three years' time is the most important purchase consideration? Well, This is Money and valuations experts Glass's have worked out the top ten cars which hold onto their value best.

The top ten list is unsurprisingly made up of SUVs and popular cars which buyers are clamouring to get their hands on.

Adrian Rushmore, Glass's managing editor, said: "There are many of the usual suspects in the top ten this year from the likes of Land Rover and of course the evergreen Land Cruiser.

"But there are a few interesting points to note. In particular we usually see models that are only appearing as three year old examples for the first time because these are at the height of their desirability in the mix of all three year old cars being offered.

"We've also seen that, despite the tough economic times, demand has not overtaken supply of budget, fuel-efficient models – otherwise they would appear in the top 10.

"The key outtake from this year is that the cars which hold the most value are those with a strong image. Reputation counts for a lot in the car market.'

The top ten list complied by This Money and Glass's are three-year old cars and have driven 37,000 miles.
