Honda makes-over CR-Z for 2013

Honda has given its CR-Z sporty hybrid a very mild make-over for 2013.

Headlining the changes is a boost in power. Thanks to replacing the nickel-plated batteries with lithium ion ones and tweaking the 1.5-litre petrol engine's ECU and variable valve timing system, the total power hike is... 11bhp.

Overall power is now 135bhp at 6,600rpm and there's 190Nm of torque. The 2013 CR-Z's 0-60 time tumbles 0.9 seconds to 9.1 on the Sport model and falls by 0.6 seconds to 9.5 on the GT model.

Top speed of both variants is 134mph, however the increase in power has not compromised fuel economy and CO2 emissions; The CR-Z's 56.5mpg on the combined cycle and 116g/km (Sport) and 54.3mpg and 122g/km (GT) remains.

Speaking of models, Honda has axed the CR-Z S version leaving a model range of just two: The £20,550 Sport and the £23,050 GT. Prices have risen for both models: £1,455 in the case of the Sport and the GT has leapt up by £1,830.

The 2013 model has also undergone some styling updates. Two new colours will be available in the form of Aurora Violet and Energetic Yellow; there's also a new bumper design and a revised front grille. The GT model also now features 17-inch alloy wheels.

There are a few changes on the inside, too in the form of changes to the colour scheme and improvements to the cabin storage.
