Goodwood and Silverstone fight over Father's Day

Who would have thought Dads were so popular? Both Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Silverstone Classic have said that their tickets are the perfect gift for Father's Day.

Goodwood Festival of Speed (28 June to 1 July) is offering Formula One drivers from Sir Jackie Stewart to Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, plus rally greats such as Hannu Mikkola and bike aces such as Kenny Roberts.

This year's featured marque is Lotus, celebrating 50 years – although let's hope with all the rumours swirling around Lotus right now it does not become a wake. Other attractions include a collection of the Queen's cars over the last 60 years, the FoS-Tech concept car exhibition and exhibitions from the Red Arrows and the Eurofighter.

Meanwhile Silverstone Classic (20-22 July) says it is "the world's biggest classic motor racing festival". There will be a line-up of 24 races featuring some of the most spectacular classic racing cars in the world. Ranging from the cars of the 1930s to the 1990s, the race line-up will cover Formula 1, Le Mans, sports and GT cars. There is also a Celebrity Challenge race including Sir Patrick Stewart, Heston Blumenthal, BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Brendan Cole and AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson.

Live music will also be a major feature of the weekend, with concerts on the evenings of both Friday (20 July) and Saturday (21 July). Mike and Mechanics top the bill on Friday (now that really is one for the Dads), while Saturday's performances feature sets by Snakecharmer and Adam Ant.
