We're beginning to think this this whole new MG thing is serious. So serious, in fact, that the company is about to start selling a family hatchback that will go squarely against three of the most popular cars in the UK - the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and VW Golf.
The first pic of the MG5 has arrived, and it looks...promising. In fairness, though, Photoshop can make anything look promising.
Due on sale in the UK close to Christmas next year, the MG5 is currently being developed specifically for Europe - as distinguished from the Chinese market version, which will go on sale earlier. Some time this year, in fact.
So, while China's car will only have petrol power - most likely a 1.8-litre unit with 105bhp - we'll get the full gamut of petrol and diesel engines, because we're more picky than the Chinese.
The five-door hatchback will have suspension tuned to cope with the often diabolical road surfaces we have to endure, and interior plastics that look and feel better than those that the Chinese have to endure.
By the start of 2014, MG will have at least three cars in its portfolio, comprising this one, the MG3 supermini (due later early 2013) and today's MG6.
Beechwood MG will be managed by Rob Wood, a former amateur rally co-driver, and will open at the end of this month.
