Geneva Motor Show: Ford Transit Tourneo MPV

Updated:

Have you ever, while being tailgated by a white van apparently being driven by a copy of the Daily Sport, thought about what a good people-carrier a Transit van would make?

Ford has, and here's the result: the Transit Tourneo.

It's Ford's answer to the Hyundai i800 and Ferrari Volkswagen California, and it's built for "leisure customers," says Ford. It's not clear who they are.

In an attempt to turn buyers' attentions from the fact it's a converted van, Ford claims it has all the trappings of a regular car, including a "driver focused" dashboard and tech including voice activation for the electrics, a reversing camera and sleepy driver alert.

The seats can be configured in a number of ways for up to eight occupants, or can be removed altogether, giving this van, erm, van-like carrying capability.

The sole engine choice is a 2.2-litre diesel with 153bhp.

It's not clear when the Tourneo will go on sale in the UK, or how much it will cost, but don't expect this much space to be cheap. £30,000 or so, we'd guess.

Stuff other than vans is happening at the Geneva Motor Show. Check it all out here.
