The Lada 1200 might not have been the most stylish saloon, in fact it was the butt of jokes until its sister car, the Riva, was discontinued in 1997.
However, the Fiat 124-based saloon did sell well to buyers who valued its ruggedness, simplicity and durability over style.
What I wouldn't expect it to make is a good drift car, as the standard engines offered weedy performance, even with rear wheel drive.
Slot in a V8 and performance is no longer an issue. In fact, the result looks to be a smoking (literally!) street sleeper, as apart from the bonnet scoop, the square saloon body looks standard.
