This year's Silverstone Classic event will celebrate 50 years of the much-loved British sportscar, the MGB.

The celebration will be one of many for the Abingdon-built sportscar, starting with MGLive! in June where some of the best models in the country will be displayed.

The 50th anniversary will take place at Silverstone on 20-22 July, offering a mixture of track action, classic car displays and live music.

Each MGB owner will be given a unique plaque commemorating the event, organised by the MGB Car Club and the MBG50 Committee. A static car show at Blenheim Palace in September will round off the homage.

More than half a million MGBs were built in 18 years, stemming a racing pedigree from various victories in motorsport at Brands Hatch, Nurburgring, Sebring and the Monte Carlo Rally.

Last year, the Silverstone Classic honoured the Jaguar E-type with a grand show gathering nearly 50 models on the track.
