Hertz offers 'cheap' supercar hire

Updated:

Budget holidaymakers will now be able to trade their rental diesel Corsa up for a Lamborghini Gallardo or Ferrari 458 Italia, because ubiquitous hire company Hertz has opened a supercar rental business.

Hertz Supercars rents out exotica for as little as £150 per day, although prices go up to something near four figures for a proper hypercar. But no, you can't have a Veyron. Boo.

And actually, the £150 car isn't a supercar at all - nothing like it, in fact. It's a Land Rover Discovery. Great car and that, but hardly the sort of thing that will secure you a hot date with someone normally way out of your league.

A McLaren MP4-12C will, though - if you're willing to cough up £951.62 for a day's use. Not to get all Top Gear Challenge about it, but you could almost buy a Porsche for that. For keeps.

Still, just over half the McLaren's outlay will bag you a Lamborghini Gallardo, though if that's too much, a Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet can be yours for £367.50.

Other cars available include the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster (pictured), Bentley Continental GT, Aston Martin DB9, Aston Martin Rapide and Audi R8. Nice.

The rental initiative is a tie-up between Hertz and supercar hire company Premiere Velocity, whose MD Stephen Price said: "We're extremely excited to be partnering with Hertz to offer renters the opportunity to experience some of the most beautiful, powerful and thrilling cars built today, that they ordinarily may not have access to."

Which confuses us, because presumably those renters would ordinarily have access through Premiere Velocity's rental service. It has a website and everything. Hey ho.
