A Chevvy for under ten grand!

Updated:

Chevrolet has announced prices for its all new Aveo set to hit showrooms in January – ok, it's only a 1.2-litre four cylinder, but it's not bad.

The new Aveo is a sweet little prospect though. The new exterior styling is all angular and gives the little supermini a taught and aggressive look – and at £9,995 for the base 1.2 LS model, it's value for money personified.
The Aveo's engines will range from an 86bhp 1.2-litre petrol, a 101bhp 1.4-litre petrol or two 1.3-litre diesels producing 75 or 95bhp.

All engines will be mated to a five-speed manual as standard, although there is the option of a six-speed auto on 1.4-litre models – we reckon the manual will be the best bet though.

Levels of kit on the latest small Chevvy will be good too. Even in basic trim the Aveo gets remote central locking, rear spoiler, CD-player, electrically adjustable heated door mirrors and electric front windows.

LT models will pick up some natty 15-inch alloy wheels, steering wheel audio controls, air conditioning, Driver Information Centre and Bluetooth phone compatibility as well.

Prices range from £9,995 for the basic 1.2 LS and top out at £13,615 for the range-topping 1.3 LTZ VCDi but at only £1,000 extra for the LT and all that kit, we reckon that's pretty good value.

While we wouldn't call any of the new Aveo line up particularly hot or soul stirring, the new Chevvy will at least be frugal and efficient – the 1.3 LT VCDi Ecodiesel produces a road-tax busting 95 g/km of CO2.

Whether the new Aveo will match up dynamically to the smart Kia Picanto and nippy Hyundai i10 remains to be seen though.

They say that nothing handles like a hire car so that's one road test we're definitely looking forward to!
